The Blue Mogganers.
Peterhead's fishermen wore blue knitted stockings called moggans, and the town knew them as the Blue Mogganers. Our Blue Mogganer collection carries their name: classic Peterhead fisherman's knitwear built for people who head out into the elements, from the North Sea to the summit.
A chunky 4-ply seamless Shetland, modelled on the garments Scottish mariners wore on the harsh North Sea in the early 1900s.
Inspired by the Peterhead whalers and fishermen who braved Arctic voyages in the early 1900s. An extra-chunky 6-ply seamless Shetland that grows softer and tougher the more it is worn.
Before fishing took over, whaling was Peterhead's main industry, and its whaleships sailed from the North Sea to the Arctic through sea ice and treacherous waters. Inspired by those hardy voyages, the Whaler is a dense 4-ply seamless knit with a relaxed rolled neck and cuffs.
A homage to the fishermen, and today's trawlermen, who brave the North Sea. Peterhead grew into Britain's premier fishing centre, its harbours buzzing with herring boats. A chunky 4-ply seamless Glenugie Nep that nods to the traditional gansey.
Our version of the polo neck supplied to the Royal Navy in 1941 to protect submariners from freezing conditions. Classic 4-ply Shetland, knitted completely seam-free.
A thick, solid Glenugie Nep fisherman's sweater with an extra-wide funnel neck and chunky ribbed cuffs, made with the vintage marine know-how of Harley of Scotland. Each colour is named after an island on Scotland's West Coast.
A chunky, seamless big hug of a polo neck in Superfine Merino, and the first Blue Mogganer knitted in women's sizing.
Inspired by the divers who built Peterhead's South Harbour breakwater in the early 1900s, whose huge iron helmets called for a thinner, insulating knit with a high neck. A seamless ribbed polo neck in extra-soft Geelong lambswool.
Our special brushing for the North Sea Shetland. Brushed twice with natural teasels, its chunky 4-ply knit takes on an exaggerated, shaggy finish worthy of its name.
The Blue Mogganer spirit of adventure, carried from the North Sea to the summit. A featherlight 1-ply in undyed Voe Shetland, spun in the natural colour of the fleece: the kind of thin, insulating layer Sir Edmund Hillary favoured for the world's harshest climates.
Made for the ones who go further. Like the Blue Mogganers who braved the open sea, the Sherpa honours the climbers who reached the top of the world, and the Voe True Shetland wool Sir Edmund Hillary wore to the summit of Everest in 1953. A 2-ply standardweight in undyed Voe wool.

How it shapes Bosie
A name with a story. Every Blue Mogganer style takes its name from a life of adventure, from the fishermen, whalers and divers of our town to the climbers who carried that same hardy spirit to the summit of Everest.
Collector tags. Many Blue Mogganer styles come with their own collector tag, a pen-and-ink illustration by Nathan Yoder with an evocative quote on the back.
Bears of the North. When we brush our chunky Blue Mogganers with natural teasels, they earn bear names: the brushed Submariner becomes the Polar Bear, and the brushed North Sea Shetland becomes the Great Bear.
Own a piece of the story.
The illustrations behind our collector tags are also available as original prints by Nathan Yoder. Each one is printed by hand on a traditional press, in a small, numbered limited edition, so no two runs are ever quite the same. Once an edition has gone, it has gone for good.
The perfect companion to your Blue Mogganer, or a gift for anyone who loves the sea.
