Knitwear made to last, and made to return to the earth.
Sustainability sits at the heart of Bosie. We respect the natural world and the people who wear our knitwear, through the fibres we choose, the way we treat animals and people, how we knit, and where we make.
Pure materials
We knit only with pure, natural fibres from well-cared-for animals. We never use synthetic yarns made from petrochemicals.
Wool and cashmere are living fibres. They respond to the body and the weather, need far fewer chemical treatments to become yarn, and fully biodegrade at the end of their long life.
Ethics
Animal welfare is our highest priority. Over centuries sheep have been bred to need shearing, and we treat them, and the beautiful fleece they give, with the respect they deserve.
All our yarns are mulesing free, and our Scottish, British and Italian spinners are RWS certified or in the process of becoming so. We never use fibres that are painfully plucked from animals, and we only source from countries with high animal welfare standards.
Our knitwear is made in the UK, under UK employment law, by people we know by name. Ethically made knitwear, at an ethical price, so we and our customers can sleep soundly.
Seam-free, zero waste
Most of our knitwear is knitted by my family's mill, founded by my grandfather in 1929 and the pioneer of seam-free knitting in Scotland.
Seam-free knitting shapes each garment in a single piece. Nothing is cut away, so no precious fibre is wasted, and with no seams to rub, it is as comfortable as a hand knit.
Shaped by the sea
Our knitting happens in Peterhead, on the North-East coast of Scotland, where my grandfather fished and knitted moggans for the fishing fleet.
There is no long chain of overseas factories and middlemen. When you buy Bosie, you are buying directly from the people who make it, and investing in local craft with a small footprint.
Nature's own performance fibre.
Biodegradable
Wool returns to the soil at the end of its life, without shedding plastic microfibres.
Breathable
It wicks moisture away from the skin and keeps you comfortable in changing weather.
Stays fresh
Wool naturally resists the bacteria that cause odour, so it needs less washing than synthetics or cotton.
Naturally flame resistant
Wool ignites at a higher temperature than cotton or polyester and does not melt or stick to the skin.
