Our knitwear grew out of a harsh climate, the herring boats and the fishing fleet that built our town. Every Bosie piece carries that maritime heritage, and we take real pride in telling its true story.
Bosie is a word still heard along our stretch of the North-East coast, in our old Scots tongue, Doric. A Bosie jumper is meant to feel exactly like that: a warm, comforting hug.
From fishing boats to family mill.
A mill in a herring yard
Our founder Juliet's grandfather, himself a former fisherman, founded our family mill in an old herring yard in Peterhead. Its first knits were fishermen's socks, made from thick, oily wool to keep out the North Sea.
Knitting for the fleet
He built his legacy knitting for the fishermen of Peterhead, the Blue Toon. Among them were moggans, the thick blue stockings worn by the town's fishermen, who were known far and wide as the Blue Mogganers.
From the islands to the world
Inspired by the fisherwomen hand-knitting Fair Isle in Orkney and Shetland, the mill turned to Fair Isle jumpers, a look that became famous once the Duke of Windsor wore it.
Peterhead knitwear goes abroad
The next generation joined the mill and took its knitwear to North America and Japan.
A Scottish first
Our family mill pioneered seam-free knitting in Scotland: garments knitted in one piece, with no seams to rub and no fibre wasted. Pieces are still finished by hand and washed in Peterhead's soft water, and most of our knitwear is knitted there today.
Bosie
Our founder, Juliet, holds a First Class honours degree in Textile Design. She designs Bosie's knitwear, carrying our family's craft and our coast's story to a new generation.

Teasel brushing
We brush our Shetlands on a vintage machine using natural teasels, a type of thistle, for that soft, shaggy finish.
Illustrated by hand
Our Blue Mogganer collector tags are pen-and-ink illustrations by Nathan Yoder, who also hand-prints them as numbered, limited-edition originals on traditional presses.
