Description

The Blue Mogganer Submariner is our version of the iconic nautical stalwart ordered by the British War Office and supplied to the Royal Navy in 1941, to protect Submariners from the freezing conditions of life both deep beneath the sea and above. In the Icy waters of the North Sea, below zero temperatures, bitter winds and salt spray required a thick, hard wearing and thermally protective garment with a high polo to keep the chill at bay. Our Submariner is 4 ply, classic shetland wool and knitted completely seam-free to add supreme comfort and fit. A true Winter wardrobe staple.

Colour / Design Story

+ -

Our Blue Mogganer Sweater range is inspired in fashioning/shaping, by the old and long established fishing communities of our locality in the North East of Scotland. Seam free, chunky and exquisitely soft in handle, they are true replicas of the traditional garments Scottish Mariners would have worn in the extremely harsh North Sea, in the early 1900’s. Our town of Peterhead was nicknamed The ‘Blue Toon’ and fishermen were locally branded as ‘Blue Mogganer's' in tribute to the (often Blue) Moggan's (thick knitted socks) they wore. Made locally by Harley of Scotland whose founder, Peter Harley, started out his business knitting some of those very Moggan's, the real deal.

Garment Care

+ -

Our knitwear can be dry cleaned, which is ultimately what we recommend.

If you prefer to wash at home, please hand wash only in cool to hand-warm water in a wool friendly detergent such as Woolite or Stergene (in the measurements specified on the bottle).

Dry flat and gently reshape whilst still damp.

Please note wool does not need to be washed as much, because it naturally resists odour, moisture and bacteria.

Remember…

- Never machine wash

- Never hand wash in hot water

- Never wash in biological or non-wool detergent
