Description

+ -

All our Blue Mogganer Fair isles are named after our local Fishing towns in North East Scotland. This one after the beautiful seaside town of Crovie.

It has been often rumoured that historically, fisherman along our coast and from the Shetland and Fair Isles, wore these patterns because each town had particular patterns to identify the origin of the sailor in any wrecking tragedies, which were much more common at the time.

Because of the allover patterning of our allover fairisle’s like this one, it is not possible to knit with our seam free technology so this item is fully fashioned (knitted in parts and sewn together).

Colour / Design Story

Our Blue Mogganer Sweater range is inspired in fashioning/shaping, by the old and long established fishing communities of our locality in the North East of Scotland. Seam free, chunky and exquisitely soft in handle, they are true replicas of the traditional garments Scottish Mariners would have worn in the extremely harsh North Sea, in the early 1900’s. Our town of Peterhead was nicknamed The ‘Blue Toon’ and fishermen were locally branded as ‘Blue Mogganer's' in tribute to the (often Blue) Moggan's (thick knitted socks) they wore. Made locally by Harley of Scotland whose founder, Peter Harley, started out his business knitting some of those very Moggan's, the real deal.

Garment Care

+ -

Our knitwear can be dry cleaned, which is ultimately what we recommend.

If you prefer to wash at home, please hand wash only in cool to hand-warm water in a wool friendly detergent such as Woolite or Stergene (in the measurements specified on the bottle).

Dry flat and gently reshape whilst still damp.

Please note wool does not need to be washed as much, because it naturally resists odour, moisture and bacteria.

Remember…

- Never machine wash

- Never hand wash in hot water

- Never wash in biological or non-wool detergent
